Frequently Asked Questions

It’s normal to feel nervous (or not) about your first visit to see a Women’s Health Physiotherapist.  Natasha is familiar with people being not sure what t expect and is ready to answer any questions you may have.   You can get a head start on your time together by reading through the Frequently Asked Questions below.

How is a Women’s Health Physiotherapist different from an ordinary Physio?

A Women’s Health Physiotherapist needs to have special training to learn about health conditions unique to women.  There are also certain core competencies that must be assessed and certified by our peak body, the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

Do I need to have a pelvic exam?

A pelvic exam is often a very helpful assessment to gain as much information as possible to help you with your condition. This helps inform Natasha so she can give the best tailored treatment for you.

It’s important that you are told what to expect and have an opportunity to ask any questions.  You can say “no” to any part of the exam and ask to have the exam ended at any point.  There are always alternatives to a pelvic exam, and other ways to gain enough information to give a treatment plan.

What should I wear to my first visit?

Wear something comfortable that you can move in.  Something that is easy to change in and out of may be helpful as well.

What does a Women’s Health Treatment Program look like?

Natasha will work with you to come up with some ideas that will work with your life to help you meet your goals.

Depending on what your issues are, some of the things you may be doing may be:

  • Some changes to your home environment
  • Some changes to the way you drink/ eat or urinate / defecate
  • Stretches and exercises
  • Breathing techniques
  • Breathing techniques
  • Pelvic Floor Training
  • Hands-on (manual) treatment techniques
  • Recording more data about your concern
